CDC warns not to kiss or cuddle chickens and Twitter loses it

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have a bizarre request attached to their latest health warning, the agency urging Americans to stop kissing and hugging with their chickens.

according to CBS New York, the most recent alert was active after the CDC announced that more than 1,000 people in 49 US states had been infected with salmonella.

The state of New York rose to the top of the ranking with about sixty people diagnosed on August 23.

The CDC recommends not allowing children under five or people with weakened immune systems to interact with backyard chickens.

Chicken owners are encouraged to wash their hands properly. The immediate application of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer can help prevent the risk of getting salmonella.

The CDC also urges individuals to avoid letting their backyard hens get in and walk around their homes.
