Eight cellists were selected for the semi-final of the 75th Geneva International Music Competition. This follows an online recital, from which they will advance to the live semi-finals which take place in Geneva from October 23-26.

The semi-finalists are:

Bryan Cheng, 24, Canada

Jaemin Han, 15, South Korea

Min Ji Kim, 26, South Korea

En-Chun Lin, 20, Taiwan

Samuel Niederhauser, 23, Switzerland

Maxime Quennesson, 26, France

Michiaki Ueno, 25, Japan

Maria Zaytseva, 20, Russia

The members of the jury are Ivan Monighetti, Thomas Demenga, Michaela Fukačová, Ophélie Gaillard, Clive Greensmith, Qin Li-Wei and Shauna Rolston.

The competition is open to cellists aged 15 to 30. The semi-final consists of a baroque sonata, a contemporary sonata and a freely chosen repertoire of a maximum duration of 60 minutes. From there, three finalists will be selected for the final round of concertos and the chance to win the first prize of CHF 20,000, as well as future concert engagements, management, recordings, workshops and tours. Previous 1st place winners are Myung-Wha Chung, Wenn-Sinn Yang and István Várdai.
