NEW DELHI: Following the daily increase in new cases of Covid-19 in some states, the Center on Wednesday dispatched high-level multidisciplinary teams to visit 10 states that have seen an increase in the number of infections.
Core teams will travel to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to determine the reason for the rise in cases.
The teams will support states in public health measures for a targeted response and management of Covid, the health ministry said.
The Center advised States and UTs to undertake a regular review of the emerging situation with relevant district officials to ensure that the progress made so far in managing Covid is not lost.
The Center has also written to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and J&K. “States should focus on taking aggressive measures to break the chain of transmission and to ensure that RT-PCR tests are amplified to eliminate so far undetected cases from the population,” the Secretary of State said. Health Rajesh Bhushan in the letter.
These states / TUs have been advised to increase testing in a targeted manner in affected districts and to ensure that all symptomatic negatives of antigen tests are mandatorily tested via RT-PCR tests. People who test positive must be quickly isolated or hospitalized, all their close contacts must be traced and also tested without delay, Bhushan said.
“Any laxity in the implementation of strict measures to curb the spread, in particular in view of the new strains of the virus observed in certain countries, could worsen the situation”, he added.
