Center County on Wednesday reported 47 new cases of COVID-19 – its highest number since April 30 – to bring its total to 17,709, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Of the total cases, 16,076 are confirmed and 1,633 are probable.
Pennsylvania added 3,100 new positives to increase the state’s total to 1,303,468.
The county also had 115 negative results to bring the total to 75,535. Throughout Pennsylvania, there were 9,750 new negatives for a total of 5,152,733.
Deaths
No new deaths related to COVID-19 were identified by the Pennsylvania death registry on Wednesday. Center County has recorded 231 deaths attributed to the virus and the state has recorded 28,235.
Hospitalizations
According to the DOH Hospital Readiness Dashboard, 22 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Center County, an increase of five since Tuesday. Two are in intensive care [-1] and one is on a ventilator [-1].
Pennsylvania has 1,835 COVID-19 hospital patients, a decrease of 15 since Tuesday, including 482 in intensive care [+8] and 235 on fans [+19]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 9.
An estimated 93% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
Transmission level
Center County remains at highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on Centers for Disease Control scale, latest says at the county level data update Tuesday afternoon.
Statewide, 66 of 67 counties are at a high transmission level. Only Snyder County is at the substantial level, the second highest on the CDC scale.
Transmission levels are based on the positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people in the previous seven days. At substantial and high levels, CDC guidelines recommend that all people, regardless of immunization status, wear masks in indoor public places.
Vaccination
As of Wednesday morning, 80,476 people in Center County are fully vaccinated [+98 since Tuesday] and 6,521 are partially covered [-10]. According to the CDC, 59.6% of the entire county population and 66.5% of adult residents have received at least one dose.
Statewide, 65.9% of adults in Pennsylvania are fully immunized, and the Commonwealth ranks fifth nationally for total doses administered.
Vaccination appointments for 12 years and over are available via Medical Volunteer Center, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and suppliers listed on vaccins.gov.
