Central County Reports Biggest Increase in COVID-19 Cases in 5 Months; Pennsylvania adds 4,197 positives

Center County reported 114 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday to bring its total to 18,162. This is the county’s largest increase since April 3, when it numbered 134.

The new positives bring the county total to 18,162 (16,481 confirmed and 1,681 probable).

Pennsylvania added 4,197 cases to bring the statewide total to 1,333,308.

The county also had 209 new negative test results for a total of 76,405. Statewide, there were 7,636 negative results to bring the total to 5,222,066.

Deaths

The DOH has not reported any new deaths attributed to the virus among residents of Center County, keeping the total at 232.

With 52 new deaths from COVID-19 statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,446.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH Hospital Readiness Dashboard, 16 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Center County, one more than Wednesday. Two are in intensive care [+1] and we’re on a fan.

Pennsylvania has 2,118 COVID-19 hospital patients, an increase of 36 since Wednesday, with 523 in intensive care [+17] and 296 on fans [+46]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 5.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Transmission level

Pennsylvania’s 67 counties are at the highest level of community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to latest at the county level data update Wednesday afternoon.

Transmission levels are based on the positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people in the previous seven days. At substantial and high levels, CDC guidelines recommend that all people, regardless of immunization status, wear masks in indoor public places.

Vaccination

As of Wednesday morning, 81,100 people in Center County are fully vaccinated [+98 since Wednesday] and 6,608 are partially covered [-9]. According to the CDC, 60.2% of the county’s total population and 67.1% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 66.7% of adults are vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the country for total doses administered, according to the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for 12 years and over are available via Medical Volunteer Center, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and suppliers listed on vaccins.gov.
