Changes to the MercuryNews.com article commenting system – the Mercury News

[ad_1]

In an effort to make our online community more real and authentic, as well as to make it easier to interact with the news, we are synchronizing the connection flow between the comments platform at the bottom of the articles and the MercuryNews.com website. -same.

In the past, you may have noticed that you have to log in separately both at the top of the page and on the comments platform. Now these are tied together.

Digital subscribers and print subscribers who have enabled digital access will continue to receive “Subscriber” badges indicating their subscription status, including “Premium Subscriber” for those who have opted for an ad-free experience.

As a result of this change, users who have made comments in the past under separate identities will no longer be able to access their historical comments.

Users who have associated an image with login credentials on Google, Facebook, or Apple will see the image displayed in a circle next to their comments with their name on those platforms. Those who use an email address as their login ID will see initials in this image, as well as an abbreviated version as the username.

As before, the system will automatically disable comments containing abusive language and include the ability for users to report comments that they believe violate our comment rules. These rules prohibit the use of vulgar language, personal name calling or attacks, impersonation of another commenter, and the posting of personal information or links or content that contains spam. Commentators should treat each other with respect and stay focused. Those who break the rules will be banned from commenting.

We hope you enjoy the ease of use of the new login system and look forward to continuing to provide a forum for local engagement with the news. If you have any feedback you would like to share with us directly about the experience, please write to us at [email protected].
