LIMA – A weekday drop-in center on S. Elizabeth Street is now a certified food bank and a gathering place for those in need of a hot meal or a place to go.
Coleman Health Services opened Changing Seasons years ago to serve the city’s homeless and adults struggling with mental illness or substance use disorders.
The reception center has since moved from the YMCA annex on West Street to the basement of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board offices on Elizabeth Street about nine months ago so it can serve more people.
“Recovery is tough and you have to work on it, but recovery can happen,” said Tammy Gould, community liaison with Changing Seasons.
After six years of recovery, Gould now works alongside his former counselor Coleman to help others who need a safe place to go.
There is a billiards room and an open area, equipped with a community refrigerator, television and tables for meetings or meals, open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The gathering space is open to any adult, whether a Coleman client or not, serving as a space for recovery meetings and social gatherings for those with no place to stay.
Changing Seasons serves lunch on weekdays and acts as a food bank from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays, offering free food boxes to the public once a month. The visitor center held a parking sale on Friday to raise funds for its satellite food bank.
Changing Seasons became a certified satellite location for the West Ohio Food Bank after moving to its new location at 529 S. Elizabeth St., an opportunity the Visitor Center could not handle in the past due to space. and inadequate equipment.
