The Northwest Community Health Center is expected to receive federal funding of $ 589,353 as the clinic continues to resist the coronavirus pandemic.
The local center was one of 12 community health centers in the state that received just over $ 7 million. U.S. Senator Jon Tester helped secure the funding through the American Rescue Plan Act, according to a statement from Tester’s office.
Maria Clemons, executive director of the Northwest Community Health Center, said the funds provided would help renovate the centre’s Troy and Libby facilities. The installation of back-up generators, minor repairs and improvements to the exterior and interior of buildings are at the top of the list.
“Community Health Centers provide affordable, high-quality health care to the people of Montana and have been on the front line to protect communities bordering Montana from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Tester said in the statement.
Local facilities like the Northwest Community Health Center provide essential primary care services nationwide by reducing costs and distance barriers. According to the statement, the health centers serve one in five people living in rural communities and one in 11 people across the country on a mobile cost basis.
