RALEIGH – Restaurant chain Chick-fil-A will build a $ 52 million distribution center and create some 160 jobs after gaining approval for a package of state tax incentives on Tuesday morning.
Called “Project Thunder” by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, North Carolina won the Ohio in the company’s site selection process.
The jobs will pay an average salary of over $ 62,000.
The center will cover 182,000 square feet and include space for cold storage as well as vehicle maintenance.
The state’s tax incentives include an employment development investment grant of more than $ 1.5 million and an additional $ 224,000 for community college training.
The incentives have been approved by the NC Economic Investment Committee.
The town of Mebane and other local sources have also pledged more than $ 1 million in incentives, according to the Commerce Ministry.
Chick-fil-A normally uses third party distributors. This center will serve 175 restaurants in the southeast, Commerce noted.
