The study was conducted by researchers from the Schleswig-Holstein University Hospital in Germany and was published in the scientific journal Neuroradiology . To conduct the study, the researchers recruited 30 healthy men and gave them instructions on what they had to wear. Half of the participants had to wear a comfortable open collar shirt without a tie. The other half of the participants had to make a tie with a very tight Windsor knot, enough to be a bit uncomfortable.

Researchers submitted participants to magnetic resonance imaging to badyze how the use of links affected their brains. They observed that the accessories crushed the veins in the participants' necks and reduced blood flow in their brains by 7.5%.

Although experts said that such a reduction would not be enough to cause obvious symptoms, they said that cognitive function of individuals.

The study is not the first to discover that people who wear ties can suffer side effects. In 2003, researchers at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary found that close ties could hurt people's long-term vision.
