An eight-month-old baby died of a syncytial virus

An eight-month-old baby, originally from Puerto Natales, arrived at the hospital Saturday because of health complications, caused by respiratory syncytial virus

. the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Health, of the 1,243 cases reported this month due to respiratory diseases, 72% were due to this disease and the rest because of influenza.

Since 2015, no case similar to that of baby died in the region. The health authority emphasizes the importance that parents be very aware of the symptoms to go see the doctor on time.

At the hospital, two children are hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit because of the same syncytial virus.
