Director:
Last week, President Sebastián Piñera signed the bill that sanctions antisocial behavior in the Matadero Franklin neighborhood, in the heart of the capital.
The goal is to combat these behaviors they harm the healthy life in the community and that often they are invisibilizados product of an undue normalization. Unfortunately, these facts are transforming a harmonious coexistence and a welcoming environment.
Among the areas addressed by the project include: the requirement of responsibilities in the face of vandalism in schools and public transport, lined streets, inadequate accumulation of waste, as well as drug use or alcohol in public.
It is true that some have criticized the firm signal that the government has given on this subject, but it is also true that these measures have been widely demanded by the citizens to their authorities for some time.
Proof is that the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, was the one who promoted this initiative of the municipality. At every meeting we had with the neighbors, they constantly asked for the same thing: a safer, cleaner and more orderly municipality.
We hope that our parliamentarians will lead a diligent process of this future legislation, because we must never forget that the use of our public spaces determines the city we are building together. The citizens demand, with reason, rules that are applicable to them
