Earlier this month, the candidate Jair Bolsonaro, from the Social-Liberal Party of Brazil, managed to obtain 46% of the votes of first round of the presidential election of this country.
After the counting of the votes, the far right will face Fernando Haddad, of the Workers' Party, and the continuation of the Lula da Silva mandate.
Sunday, October 28 the politicians will face the second round. How many votes did they get in each state? How many other candidates could turn to Haddad or Bolsonaro ? You can view these data below.
The results of October 7
With its 46%, Jair Bolsonaro is designated as the most likely winner of Sunday's vote .
However, many states in Brazil have not reached the majority and have been overtaken by Fernando Haddad – with whom he will face the polls this Sunday – or by the candidate Ciro Gomes, who is already absent.
The northeastern region, in particular, is a difficult terrain for the representative of Brazil's social-liberal party. In the state of Piauí for example, he obtained a rare, 18.8% of the preferences.
In Bahia, Maranhao and Ceará obtained similar percentages and in this latter area something that caught our attention: the option having obtained the first majority was Ciro Gomes , which did not happen in the second round.
If we focus on the performance of Fernando Haddad of the Workers Party, we find that his best results are, as one might expect, in the states where Bolsonaro had a lower score.
Redistribution of Electors
When reviewing the data for the first round, it should be noted that on October 7, there were 13 candidates. It is therefore possible that during the second call to the polls, some voters of the eleven candidates left behind will decide to support Jair Bolsonaro or Fernando Haddad.
As we have mentioned, Ceará is the only state in which neither Haddad nor Bolsonaro won the first majority . There, the candidate Ciro Gomes was ranked in first place with 40.95% of the options. More than 45% of the votes validly cast concerned a candidate other than Bolsonaro or Haddad.
A similar situation occurs, but to a lesser extent in states like Amapá, Paraná and Sao Paulo, where more than 22% of valid votes were awarded to candidates who did not participate in the second round.
Will he be in favor of one of the two candidates? This is something that we can not establish with clarity until after vote countdown next Sunday.
