El Mercurio announces changes in its staff

Journalist and lawyer Cristián Zegers Ariztía leaves the management of the newspaper El Mercurio after 12 years post, and more than 45 years of membership in this press house. The former director of the afternoon, the second, will end in August his current responsibility, which will be badumed after a period of transition by Carlos Schaerer, former deputy director of El Mercurio, former director of Valparaíso Mercury and the newspaper Las Ultimas Noticias, president of the National Press Association, ANP, and former ambbadador of Chile in Switzerland in the first government of Sebastián Piñera. Schaerer is a lawyer from the University of Chile and joined the El Mercurio publishing group in 1993 as a member of the Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief of Letters and Opinion.

The change of address also implies the departure of deputy director Juan Jaime Díaz, while the other deputy director, Alvaro Fernández, will take the direction of the morning paper
