Foster + Partnersns inaugurates a new Apple Store with a spectacular waterfall in Milan
Apple's Piazza Liberty store, designed by Foster + Partners, was open to the public in Milan, Italy. The project is located below an existing square near Corso Vittorio Emanuele, one of Milan's most popular pedestrian streets.
The store is defined by a spectacular waterfall that surrounds the entrance and forms the backdrop of a large amphitheater in the open air. Piazza Liberty is the first Apple store to be built in Italy after its collaboration in commercial design with Foster + Partners.
As part of the design, the improved square was lined with Beola Grigia, a stone widely used in Milan, and decorated with 14 Sunburst Gleditsia trees. Open 24 hours a day, the piazza will host special events throughout the year.
In a deviation from traditional shops, the commercial area is completely hidden from the public, accessible by pbading between two large water cascading plans. Coming down the stone and metal cantilevered stairway from a Beloa Grigia wall, visitors discover a series of creative initiatives that include free information sessions on photography, cinema, music creation and design. Working in one of Italy's historic squares is both a great responsibility and a formidable challenge. We combine two fundamental elements of the Italian square, water and stone, and add a glbad portal that creates a multisensory experience when visitors enter the store through a cascading fountain that seems to envelop them.

The Piazza Liberty Store is not the only Apple Store designed by Foster + Partners to be open to the public lately, with the opening from Apple Cotai Central in Macau on June 29th. . Apple Stores on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and Regent Street in London are among the other stores resulting from this collaboration.
