The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data ( INAI ) ordered to incur an imposition procedure sanctions against the company that has the "Pig.gi" enforcement, in Mexico.
This application, developed in 2015 by the firm Farrow, has been reported since July 2017 by its alliance with Cambridge Analytica involved in the theft of data from more than 50 million profiles of Facebook.
As a result of the investigation initiated by the Office of the Investigations and Audit Branch of the private sector of the Institute, sufficient evidence was given to order the start of the verification procedure against possible violations of the federal law on the protection of personal data.
The institute pointed out that when the aforementioned verification procedure was resolved, the Plenary of the institute ordered the opening of the proceedings for imposition of sanctions against the legal person responsible for the processing of personal data.
"Whenever the liable company failed to comply with some of the elements of the notice of confidentiality referred to in Article 16 of the Act on the subject.
"He performed the processing of personal data obtained from users of the application for purposes that are not included in his privacy statement, and has not taken the necessary steps to ensure the processing and the respect of the principles of protection of the personal data established by the law in the matter, "he declared.
