JetSMART, a very low-cost Chilean airline owned by the North American Investment Fund Indigo Partners made its first efforts to enter the Argentine market.
After being consolidated in Chile and expanding into Peru, the firm headed by entrepreneur Bill Franke bought the trans-Andean company Alas del Sur on Thursday.
According to El Mercurio, although the operation is not yet official, the Argentine Aeronautical Authority (ANAC) would have already approved the operation.
The airline of the neighboring country, founded by Damián Toscano and other partners, operates from Córdoba and already had requested 36 routes in this country . They also did the same management with South American destinations such as Santiago, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lima and Asuncion.
They even went further and asked to fly to Los Angeles, Rome, Barcelona and Shanghai . After that, there was also good news: the Air Transport Advisory Council (JATA) gave them, by notice, almost all the required routes.
JetSMART's strategic plan began to take shape. In early 2018, they announced an important order to the prestigious aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which considers 70 aircraft of the family A320 (56 A320neo and 14 A321neo) and adds six other A320ceo.
This order is part of the most important agreement in history, endorsed by Indigo Partners with Airbus and although it includes individual and separate contracts, it has incorporated in total 430 new aircraft worth $ 49,500 million for its entire portfolio of airlines, including Wizz Air (Europe), Volaris (Mexico) and Frontier Airlines (United States).
