The Municipality of Las Condes activated a road project that envisages the construction of two parallel tunnels under Manquehue Avenue, in the metropolitan area, in order to reduce road congestion.

According to the slogan La Tercera, the first of the tunnels, between Martín de Zamora and Colón, was frozen for about four years. However, was added the concession of another tunnel from Apoquindo to Presidente Kennedy in order to address the entire axis of Manquehue .

Although the second initiative is in the preliminary stage, the two tunnels, between Martín de Zamora and Avenida Colón, have already been the subject of engineering studies, of investment and approval of the Ministry of Public Works [MOP].

The City Councilor and Chairman of the Transit Committee of the Mayor's Office, Felipe de Pujadas, told the newspaper that the construction will be open-air and that an estimated work period of 20 month is planned.

To obtain the resources, one of the options studied is to use the resources of the East Zone tramway project, which would connect the Portal La Dehesa, in the municipality of Lo Barnechea, and the Manquehue station in Las Condes.

In addition, de Pujadas clarified to the media that there is another option for getting money.

"We are in the process of negotiating an agreement with the MOP for a debt, and therefore, we could impute this city project to this agreement," he said.

This is an agreement that Las Condes has signed with the MOP and the Stewardship, in which the municipality is committed to developing public works in various capitals. The above would allow a legal sentence for the debt the mayor has with the financial product of the extension of Line 1 of the subway.
