The director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Masahiro Sakurai, has expressed concern about the next installments of the franchise.
In a review of the journal Famitsu (via Silicon Era), Sakurai shared his opinion on what Ultimate means for the next games in the series. He also talked about what would have happened if, for some reason, Ultimate appeared earlier than expected.
"Speaking of the next title of the series, I think putting all the playable characters [en Super Smash Bros. Ultimate] was like opening a Pandora box," he says. "It could ruin many possibilities for the franchise."
The designer continued, "Honestly, it made me happy that nothing runs, I think if something came up in advance I would not have had the same reception."
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was revealed at a Nintendo Direct in March, with Nintendo giving it all the reflector in E3 2018.
