Just a few days ago, we informed you that His Holiness Francis I had accepted the resignation of two bishops of Our Church: Alejandro Goic of the diocese of Rancagua and Horacio Valenzuela of the Talca correspondent. The decision taken by the Vatican with regard to these two authorities as a whole, without differentiating the explicit reasons, we believe that they can unjustly alter their objectivity and confuse the public opinion. Monsignor Goic, three years ago, having reached the maximum age allowed for the performance of his duties, presented at the time, the corresponding resignation before the Vatican authorities. The case of Horacio Valenzuela is different, without having years to justify his resignation and without delivering Francisco I the reasons for this is inferred, that his departure is due to his condition of "Silent Observer" despicable abuses committed in his time by Fernando Karadima, in the Parroquia El Bosque, of Santiago. We believe that in this case and unfortunately in others have been referring to recent situations in the Chilean Church, Vatican diplomacy and intelligence has made a mistake. The occasion and the coincident form of the two resignations will tend in the unsuspecting public to a homologation of the causalities. Alejandro Goic, today emeritus bishop does not deserve to be the protagonist of this unpleasant confusion.
As a founding member of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Rancagua, created by Bishop Goic about eight years ago, I wish to express my deep disagreement. pain for "The Moment" untimely from this result. If you have waited more than three years to accept your resignation, you could have postponed for two or three months the situations of One and others.
We also want to express our appreciation for the great work developed by Alejandro Goic in his fourteen years in front of the church in the sixth region. Faithful to his episcopal motto: "Christ is my life", he has engaged and developed an existence of great fidelity to the message of Christ, especially to the poorest and the most abandoned. He visited our vast region permanently, sowing his word and engaging in the feelings of Justice and Solidarity. How not to remember his actions in defense of human rights and abuse of authority, at the time of the long and deep "Dark Valoric" suffered by our country. He will have made mistakes and mistakes in his management, as any of us, but he has never betrayed "The Word of Christ". At the time, we declared that Monsignor Goic was to be the great archbishop of Santiago, but as we all knew, he lacked the influences of "The High Domes of San Pedro".
The friend, welcoming and intelligent with whom had long conversations on the divine and the human. We will remember his brilliant and intelligent word that enlightened and guided us.
