Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Jose Valencia declared this week that Ecuador was interested in discussing a trade agreement and security issues with the visitor, although he had said that Venezuela was going to be a festival of dialogues.
During the morning Pence will hold a meeting with President Lenin Moreno at the Government Palace, after which he will complete his official visit to Ecuador less than 24 hours.
After 10 years of close relations with Venezuela under the government of former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017), Ecuador began to take his distances with the arrival of Moreno to power.
However, the new Ecuadorian government recently disappointed Washington by abstaining in a vote in the Organization of American States on a resolution that could result in a suspension of Venezuela of this body.
