Petrocaribe celebrates 13 years as the main energy body of the region

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela commends the sister countries of the Caribbean and Central America that make up the Petrocaribe Energy Cooperation Agreement, on the occasion of the thirteenth anniversary of this mechanism of integration, which has been a fundamental pillar of stability, energy security and socio-economic development of the peoples of the region

Petrocaribe was born from the ideas of two great Latin American leaders, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez and became a platform of solidarity cooperation that helps to minimize asymmetries in the access to energy resources, promotes the ability of states to implement sovereign policies aimed at the eradication of poverty and the improvement of the quality of life of peoples.

Today, PDVSA and the 12 joint ventures that are part of Petrocaribe have developed key energy structure for the region, whose storage capacity is 1 million 732,000 barrels and can refine up to At 70,000 barrels a day. He has articulated a logistics that includes his own transport fleet up to 980,000 barrels. After 13 years of hard work, 356 million barrels have been provided, which have been the basis of the socio-economic development of the region.

As part of Petrocaribe, the countries carried out 790 projects in the areas of food, electricity, education, sanitation, public services, housing and health among others, who have made a significant contribution to poverty reduction.

Petrocaribe played a key role in the fight against Venezuela's economic war. the oil bill received nearly 4 million tons of food that favored the most vulnerable populations.

Venezuela under the leadership of the President Nicolás Maduro continues to promote Petrocaribe as a strategic priority of its energy policy, based on the principles of solidarity, cooperation and sovereignty, overcoming the aggressions and the economic blockade unilaterally imposed by the United States Government which aims to reverse the progress made by the diplomacy of peace.
