Tec de Monterrey students identify the most dangerous drugs for your liver

[ad_1]

Researchers developed a method to identify the different effects of drugs on the human body, including 5 harmful to the liver

Because they did not want to let those of UNAM have any Glory in the Scientific Field, ] Technological Institute of High Studies of Monterrey (ITESM) and National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN) developed an online computer model that they called " Time TGO ". This model helped them identify the most toxic drugs for the human liver.

Héctor Alberto Rueda and Roberto Alejandro Cárdenas PhD Students at ITESM and Principal Investigators of the Study, Data Mining in Time Series for evaluate the effect produced by each chemical compound in the human body, simulating different doses, times and replicates for each type of drug.
They used human models in vitro, in live rats and rats in vitro, using gene expression levels. Thanks to this, they have managed to clbadify the different drugs, as well as the damage that they can cause to different organs of the human body, especially the liver.

The most dangerous compounds for the liver

The substances identified by these researchers are as follows:

Isoniazid : Generally used for the treatment of tuberculosis, but an excess of its consumption may cause liver failure.

Acetaminophen : A non-opioid badgesic, it is used to treat mild or moderate pain. Surely you know it better as one of the ingredients in Miraculous Paracetamol is used in many pain medications. Excessive consumption causes liver failure and can even lead to death.

Phenobarbital : A long-used anticonvulsant, has sedative and hypnotic properties, which helped patients with epilepsy . Its consumption can lead to a risk of liver failure.

Diclofenac : A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is used to reduce muscle inflammation and to treat pain. It is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and various types of mild and moderate pain. Its high consumption can cause hepatitis.

Naphthalate isothionate : This compound is not used in human treatment, but for the control of pathogens in plants . Its accidental consumption can cause different types of liver damage, unfortunately it is not easy to control because it does not come from drugs but from food distributed throughout the country.
