The dollar recorded a new gain against the Chilean peso on Monday. The depreciation of the local currency comes in a climate marked by the depreciation of the main currencies of Latin America.

At the end of the interbank market operations, the dollar was quoted at $ 677, which implies an increase of $ 1.9 compared to the closing reached the day before.

The behavior of the Chilean peso is in line with the rest of the currencies of the region, which are at the top of the list of the largest depreciations of the basket of emerging currencies.

"The price of the dollar begins with a rise in the week, mainly because of the momentum of the greenback against Latin American currencies," says Ricardo Bustamante, an badyst at Capital Investment.

In this sense, Bustamante pointed to key currencies such as the Mexican peso and the Brazilian real, down 1.40% and 0.33% so far.

At the same time, the dollar index – which measures the performance of the North American currency against a basket of six world currencies – fell by 0.18%.

As for the next few days, Bustamante says that the market's attention will be at the G20 meeting in Argentina on Friday and Saturday.

During the meeting, the Presidents of the United States and China will meet to resolve the trade dispute. "An increased rapprochement between the leaders of the two largest economies in the world could give a boost to the price of copper, which would weaken the dollar in Chile," concluded Bustamante.
