To date, the technological platforms that operate in the country, such as Uber, Netflix, Cabify, Deezer, among others, are obliged to pay the value-added tax (VAT) of 19%

According to the director of Dian, Santiago Rojas in October will be the first cut of accounts to know how much has been collected for this concept.

Rojas, clarified that each platform will have to see whether the service is taxed or not in Colombia and explained that a public transport company is not subject to VAT payment as long as there is no commission charged to provide a service.

This payment was stipulated in the latest tax reform, "any platform that provides services in the country, whether national or foreign, should pay VAT for its services from July 1st ". However, up to now, only nationals had this obligation

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Finance, Mauricio Cárdenas, said a few days ago that "the idea is that all platforms digital, we do not know where they are, and services in Colombia, pay VAT .It is unfair competition with our local businesses, our small businesses. "

According to the head of public finances to not have been taxed by digital platforms, the Dian would use the tool that collects the credit or debit card with which the payment was made

For its part, the Ministry of Commerce develops also a series of rules to regulate all applications that offer digital tourism services, to provide more guarantees to consumers.
