BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) – China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday issued 5G licenses for commercial use, marking the beginning of a new era in the telecommunications industry.

China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Broadcasting Network are the first business groups to obtain 5G licenses.

5G technology will establish a next-generation, high-speed, mobile, secure and extensive information infrastructure, said MIIT Minister Miao Wei at the licensing ceremony.

The 5G technology is expected to provide new opportunities and support the growth of the digital economy in China, said Miao, adding that it would accelerate the digital transformation of many sectors and would be used more in sectors such as the Internet. 39; Industrial Internet and Internet Vehicles.

According to a research report of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technologies, this technology is expected to generate economic output of 10.6 billion yuan (about 1.54 trillion US dollars) and more than 3 million jobs between 2020 and 2025.

As always, China is inviting domestic and foreign companies to actively participate in the construction, application and promotion of its 5G network and share the benefits of the development of the sector, said MIIT.
