Mars is a mostly dry, dusty and barren place. The Earth, our big blue-green marble on a planet, has a few places like this one too, which makes it perfect places to study how humans could eventually colonize the red planet. Several scientific organizations are doing it, and China is one of them.
In the Gobi Desert, China has built what it calls "Base 1 of Mars," a simulated Martian colony in which young students can taste life on another planet without even leaving their homeland. 39; origin. The facility and its remote location allow students to dress up as astronauts and experience the rewards and hardships of existence elsewhere than on Earth.
As AFP reports, the base was a costly investment. Built by a company called C-Space, its construction budget rose to just under $ 7.5 million and the fact that it was built about 25 miles from the nearest city posed a challenge.
The end result seems to have been worth it, however, as the base seems incredible. It's about the perfect replica of a base on Mars, as you can imagine, with an airlock, premises, a central control room and even a large dome-shaped greenhouse that would probably be a vital element of any Martian settlement of the real world.
Currently, the facilities are used for educational purposes. Students are invited to visit the base and explore the surrounding landscape while wearing costume models. They solve problems and learn everything about life on another planet through practical experience.
In the future, C-Space would intend to open the base to others, including tourists who want to experience life on Mars. The company apparently plans to create a hotel and a restaurant to continue paying well-fed and happy customers when they will not venture into adventures from another world.
