Chippewa Co. Sheriff’s Office Investigates Drug Trafficking in Correctional Facility | News, Sports, Jobs

CHIPPEWA COUNTY – The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a spate of drug trafficking cases at the Chippewa County Correctional Facility after 10 arrests were made in three investigations.

The first investigation, which concerned the alleged smuggling of methamphetamine inside the facility in August, led to the arrest and charge of six suspects, who are as follows:

≤ Weston LaCross, 29, is suspected of smuggling methamphetamine into the correctional facility.

According to the sheriff’s office, LaCross allegedly sold methamphetamine to other inmates, but corrections officers were able to seize the drugs as they were being passed on to other inmates. LaCross is charged with one count of delivering methamphetamine, one count of conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine and one count of an inmate in possession of contraband. LaCross is classified as a repeat offender and his bond is set at $ 250,000 with tether, police said.

Five other suspects were arrested and charged during the initial investigation. These are as follows:

≤ 32-year-old Michael Maclaren is charged with Delivery of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine and Inmate Possession of Contraband. Maclaren is classified as a repeat offender and his bond is set at $ 10,000 with bond.

≤ Timothy Hutchings, 37, is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine. Hutchings is classified as a repeat offender and his bond is set at $ 200,000 with bond.

≤ 19-year-old Colby Harmon is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine. Harmon’s deposit is set at $ 200,000 with tie.

≤ River McGrail, 19, is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine. McGrail’s bond is set at $ 100,000 with tether.

≤ Bradley Franklin, 37, is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine. Franklin is classified as a repeat offender and his bond is set at $ 10,000 with bond.

The second investigation was a joint investigation between correctional officers and sheriff’s detectives. Corrections officers seized narcotics sent by US Mail to inmates at the correctional facility. This investigation resulted in the arrest and indictment of two suspects, whose information is as follows:

≤ Hutchings is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Suboxone and Conspiracy to Smuggle into a Correctional Facility.

≤ Lauren Ashley Williams, 32, is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Suboxone, Supply Contraband to a Prisoner and Conspiracy to Supply Contraband to a Prisoner.

The final investigation involved a relative who allegedly dropped an item for an inmate at the sheriff’s office. After investigating the article, narcotics were located.

This investigation resulted in the arrest and indictment of two suspects, whose information is as follows:

≤ Harley McKerchie, 28, is charged with smuggling, prisoner.

Victoria Jane Ruddell, 46, is charged with delivering suboxone, supplying contraband to a prisoner and conspiracy to deliver contraband to a prisoner

The sheriff’s office thanked the corrections employees and the sheriff’s detectives for their hard work throughout the investigations.

“(I) want to thank our correctional officers and detectives for their diligence in keeping narcotics out of our correctional facility,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

“The Chippewa Co. Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate further contraband cases and will keep you posted on future arrests.”
