The athlete had asked to leave his dorm with former Florida quarterback Jalon Jones.
Florida cornerback Chris Steele is leaving school.
The former five-star rookie entered his name on the NCAA transfer portal. Steele met Wednesday evening with UF coach Dan Mullen to inform him, told the Sun a source close to the situation.
The decision stems from a request made by Steele to staff during his first month on campus, the source said. He asked to be moved to another dorm, as he was uncomfortable with quarterback Jones Jones, his classmate.
Staff did not plan to relocate Steele until the summer, which displeased Steele and his parents, the source said.
Then two students accused Jones of sexual assault in the dormitories of the players on April 6th. This prompted Steele to request a transfer.
Jones was not charged but left school.
As for Steele's decision to transfer, Florida's football program has no official comment on Thursday.
Steele signed on to the Gators at the All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 and signed up early in the following week. He received representatives for the first time in the spring and should have an immediate impact this season.
Steele, who is 6-foot-1 and weighed 195 pounds, was the highest-rated rookie in UF 201 201, with a consensual ranking among the top 50 and a five-star rating from Rivals.com.
He was the first signatory of California California since 2010, from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California.
