Google has been doing a lot of work on the new Chromebook Phone Hub lately. The photos you’ve taken on your phone start showing up instantly to users, it will soon drain your phone’s battery less quickly with less frequent pings, and more. Despite the fact that three very important things should have been fixed before its release, I’m still happy to see Phone Hub available to users.
To further its usefulness, Google is now making efforts to display your recently used phone apps in the Hub for quick access. First discovered by Chrome Story, a new Chrome development flag directly indicates that relaunching “streamed” apps will be one thing in the near future.

Add a feature indicator: PhoneHubRecentApps
This flag enables the Recent Apps feature in Phone Hub, which allows users to relaunch the streaming app.

Right now, on Chrome OS Canary, Phone Hub doesn’t show recently used apps on your phone, but it’s only a matter of time before the feature works with the flag turned on. Near the bottom of the Hub, there are four “Continue Browsing” tiles where your recently closed Chrome mobile web tabs would appear. Chrome Story’s Dinsan thinks apps will appear on these tiles instead of sites, and I’m inclined to agree. Check out his image below to get an idea of what I mean.
If you open an app on your phone, it should show up right in the Hub for easy access. I guess that’s what “streamed” application commit means. It’s an interesting term to use for Phone Hub, and we’ve continued to see this word used in reference. I’m starting to wonder if Google has more ambitious plans to deliver app experiences and insights to users than it currently has implemented here, but maybe that’s just a generic word to transfer this experience to the laptop via the cloud via standard sync.

If app streaming is underway at any level, this could resolve the “double notifications” issue we’re currently experiencing with Phone Hub (having to dismiss your notifications on your phone and Chromebook instead of doing so on the phone). same place and see them disappear from the other automatically).
