In the News: Tribeca Grill handed over to Jean-Georges?

The post reports that chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten was anointed by Robert De Niro to take over Tribeca Grill, but the story doesn’t tell how they know it unless they happen to be in Paris overhearing De Niro’s conversation and Vongerichten. I checked with Nieporents and I have not yet received a response …

Both Tribeca Grill and Bâtard, the original Nieporents restaurant in the neighborhood, reopened this year at the end of April.

Vongerichten will take over the operations, menu and creative vision of Tribeca Grill in a deal expected to be signed later this month. As part of the redesign, the 31-year-old restaurant will be renamed.

Discussions about a possible partnership began before the pandemic, according to people familiar with the matter, but were put on hold after New York restaurants closed.

Three weeks ago, the men sparked conversations about a culinary joint venture again when they met outside of Paris.

Jean-Georges (it’s him in the middle at the bottom) prepares the Tin building at seaport for a giant high-end dining room. And he also has The Fulton at Pier 17 and 11 other restaurants in town. Across the world he has 40, and that would make 41.
