For the second time this season, the Dunkirk Marauders college football team has canceled a game due to COVID-19 issues.

City council member Marty Bamonto announced the postponement of Friday’s home game against Pioneer at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting. Bamonto represents the Second Ward, which includes the Dunkirk Junior-Senior High School.

Bamonto also mentioned during the meeting workshop that three Dunkirk university women’s football games were canceled this week due to COVID-19.

Friday’s game has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 5 at 7 p.m. The Marauders had previously had to cancel their season opener, which was scheduled for September 3 in Kenmore East, due to COVID-19 concerns. This match has been canceled entirely.

If the schedule holds, the Marauders will now have to play three games in nine days next month. Their next match is now set for Friday October 1, when the team will visit Olean and his venerable Bradner Stadium, built beside the Allegheny River in 1925. They are now due to play Pioneer at home the following Tuesday, with another match in Karl Hoeppner Field is scheduled for Saturday October 9 against East Aurora.
