City councilor changes tone on COVID-19 after developing severe symptoms

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – After spending six hours at Decatur-Morgan Hospital, Decatur City Councilor Hunter Pepper said his take on COVID-19 has changed.

Pepper posted on his official Facebook earlier this week that he had contracted COVID.

Pepper says her experience with the virus has been terrifying and her biggest surprise has been its severity.

“I didn’t think they were as bad as they are, and they are, they’re terrible, I mean, they’re terrible and it’s hard,” Pepper said, coughing in her response.

Pepper has received backlash from his earlier comments on the mask and vaccine warrants. He believed it was an exaggeration of the government. Pepper said he received hundreds of hate messages because of his comments.

“People have told me that they hope there is no ventilator available for me. It’s terrible, and I hope I don’t have to be put on a ventilator. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and should never be torn down and wish death because of something they believe in, ”he said.

While Pepper supports his previous beliefs on warrants, his personal opinion on COVID-19 precautions has changed and now encourages everyone to get vaccinated and take safety precautions.

“Every time you enter a public space, you have to wear a mask. I’m not saying it should be mandatory and I’m not saying vaccinations should be mandatory, but I think everyone should play their part.
