The Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library offers Outdoor Adventurers of Color, a monthly series exploring opportunities for outdoor recreation, socialization and community engagement.

The film No time to waste: Betty Reid Soskin’s urgent mission airs at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 13 at Price Park. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic blanket and watch this gripping film about the inspiring life story of legendary park warden Betty Reid Soskin, 98 years old. The film shares her story as an activist, legislative representative and park planner. It also portrays his fascinating work at Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historic Park and his historical stories of people of color. Greensboro Parks and Recreation staff will also share some great resources for you to take advantage of at the end of the program.

Listen to Shawn Byrd with the band, Black Girls Do Bike, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 at Price Park. Byrd will share information on the group’s favorite places to ride and some of their most rewarding cycling experiences. She will also give you some tips on safety, cycling skills and how to get more out of your bike. Bring an outdoor chair for this meeting in the park.

Outdoor adventurers of color will gather at the Kathleen Clay branch to watch a video about the incredible story of Sunset Market Gardens, David and Nneka Williams and their family farm at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 8 on Greensboro Public Library YouTube Channel. The family owns and operates 12 acres of land, with one acre of intensely planted certified organic gardens.
