“Promoting parks in our community has significant social, economic and environmental benefits,” said Matthew Wallace of Guilford County Parks. “This project is expanding across the county to connect more residents and visitors to the parks.”
Piedmont Discovery allows users to find outdoor amenities such as pickleball courts, playgrounds or dog parks, as well as indoor recreation areas and park-owned facilities throughout Guilford County. Users of the app can search for the parks or trails closest to them, find routes, and connect to local park services websites for details on each location. The app also allows users to explore the trails based on their difficulty and terrain.
“Millions of people visit the Triad every year – and we want them to know about the great recreational opportunities in this region and see parts of the county that are off the beaten track,” said David Robinette, Director of Recreation and Facilities by Pleasant Garden Parks. .
The public is invited to attend a presentation recognizing the new partners on October 1 at 10 a.m. at the Gateway Gardens Visitor Center, 2800 East Gate City Blvd. The presentation will include a demonstration of the application.
The app was a joint project launched in 2019 between the Parks and Recreation and Information Technology departments of Greensboro, High Point and Guilford County.
