Clark County Reports 1,110 New COVID-19 Cases, 14 Deaths

Clark County reported 1,110 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths from the disease this week, as disease activity remained high and hospitalizations increased slightly, according to Clark County Public Health.

The deaths included three men in their sixties, three women in their sixties, three women in their sixties, two men 80 or older and three women 80 or older, according to Public Health. Deaths are added to the county total 10 to 12 days after they occur.

The new cases include 926 confirmed by molecular PCR tests, for 34,855 cases, and 184 probable cases diagnosed by antigenic tests, for 3,586, according to public health data.

Combined, confirmed and probable cases have averaged about 159 new cases per day since September 30, compared to an average of about 169 new cases per day last week, according to Public Health. The average is down from a peak of around 229 new cases per day on September 2, but well above the low of around 13 new cases per day reported on July 1.

As of Thursday, there were 1,203 active cases still isolated, against 1,245 on September 30, according to Public Health.

Clark County’s COVID-19 activity rate plummeted to 450.9 new cases per 100,000 population over two weeks, below last week’s rate of 465.8 and peak of 549.3 in 9 September. Before the delta variant took hold in the region, rates had fallen to 50.1 per 100,000 population by July 22.

New hospital admissions increased slightly this week, with 14.4 new hospital admissions per 100,000 population over seven days, up from 13 the week before, according to Public Health. Clark County hospitals reported that 89.7% of total hospital beds and 88.9% of intensive care beds were occupied on Tuesday. Hospitals reported that 18.1% of total hospital beds and 39.7% of intensive care beds were occupied by people with or suspected of having COVID-19.

Public Health said that on Monday, 68.6% of Clark County residents aged 12 or older had at least one dose of the vaccine and 62.6% were fully immunized. Including residents of all ages, 58.5 percent have at least one dose and 53.2 percent have been fully immunized.
