WILMINGTON – As of Friday afternoon, Clinton County is number one in Ohio with its rate of COVID cases, with 85.8 cases per 100,000 residents over a two-week period. The statewide average rate is 19.2 cases per 100,000.
As of Friday, only four of Ohio’s 88 counties had case rates above 50 per 100,000 population, according to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). These are Clinton at 85.8 cases; Williams County in 81.8 cases; Paulding County 64.3 cases; and Monroe County at 58.6 cases.
Clinton County Health Commissioner Pam Bauer said on Friday morning they had seen an increase in local cases over the past two weeks.
“We have been around 50-55 active cases this week,” she reported. The total population of Clinton County is listed at 41,968 on the ODH chart.
“There is no real pattern in these cases other than those that have not been vaccinated. With our county’s vaccination rate just above 37 percent, this increase is not unexpected, ”said the health commissioner.
“We had increased opportunities for the spread of the infection by adding the graduation party and Father’s Day gatherings after the Ohio public health orders were lifted on June 2,” she said. added.
“We know the COVID vaccine is a great tool to help reduce the spread and to help us learn to live with this virus. We continue to strongly encourage vaccinations for all eligible people, which will help reduce the spread of more contagious variants or the development of new variants, ”Bauer said in an email.
“We are ready for the unvaccinated members of our community when they are in turn ready to be vaccinated! ” she wrote.
