On September 10, members of the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District will join Southwest Florida firefighters and have their heads shaved by patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital who are battling the Cancer. Each year the event becomes an engaging and friendly competition to see who can raise the most money for the cause.

For engineer Maury Morejon, this will be his fourth year participating in the event and representing the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District.

“I feel honored to represent the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District and participate for the fourth year in the 4th annual Clips for Cancer event,” Engineer Morejon said in a press release from LAFCRD. “To have the opportunity to be a part of the overwhelming support this event brings is truly an amazing experience.”

Last year, the event was streamed live on Facebook and featured an entire day of shaving dedicated only to attendees from the Lehigh Acres Fire District. Last year, LAFCRD attendees included Chief Robert DiLallo, Deputy Chief Naranjo, Deputy Chief Ketron, Lieutenant Ricciardi, Firefighter Milana and Engineer Morejon.

According to engineer Morejon, this cause touches closely.

“I am a father of two and just lost an aunt to cancer. I can’t even imagine what these children and their families are going through, or all the pain and illness and fear they may be feeling. I want to do everything I can to help these children not to feel alone on their journey and to make them smile, even if it is for a little while ”, said Morejon. “If something as simple as a haircut can make them smile for a few hours, it’s totally worth it.”

Clips for Cancer takes place annually and is designed to support and empower children currently in treatment for cancer and blood disorders at Golisano Children’s Hospital. It helps to raise awareness and generate philanthropic support.

Ahead of the event, the Lee Health Foundation will share stories about the journeys of our local heroes against cancer as well as why the “Shaved” get their heads shaved in support of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and the Friends of Barbara – Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund.

Donations to Barbara’s Friends – Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund will make a difference in the life of a child with cancer or blood disease.

“We hope that our involvement will support their mission to fund programs, services, equipment and the best medical care for children in our community so that no child has to leave home for treatment” Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District spokesperson Katie Heck said.
