Cloudy Sunday evening, rain and snow overnight

STRAIT – Welcome Sunday night, Motown.

The blue sky turned grayer on Sunday afternoon, but we made it 50 degrees. The sky remains overcast with dry conditions this evening and before midnight. Slippery and wet weather arrives early Monday with raindrops and snowflakes. The colder air turns the winter mix into snow with a slow build-up Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. The sun returns with daytime temperatures above zero on Wednesday and after.

Sunset was at 5:03 p.m. ET.

Sunday evening will be partly cloudy and cool. Temperatures will be in the 40’s. We will still have dry conditions if you end the day at your local store or have dinner on the sidewalk.

Sunday evening becomes cloudy and cool before midnight. Temperatures drop to 30 seconds.

Our next heavy snowfall begins with snow and rain early Monday morning. The next system comes from the south, projecting a lot of moisture from the Gulf region and the Atlantic Ocean. We’re going to mix this with the air coming from Lake Huron, which has a water temperature in the 40’s. The result will be a rain / snow mix with wet and sloppy roads and sidewalks.

Sunrise is at 7:42 a.m. ET.

At noon, the storm intensifies. Its center will always be in the east with cooler air coming from the north on north winds counterclockwise from 9 to 19 mph. A winter mix for breakfast turns to light snow at 2 or 3 p.m., as temperatures drop from the mid-1930s to the low 1930s. Snow can melt early, but not for long. It becomes snow and slush on untreated surfaces, including freeways and driveways, at sunset at 5:02 p.m. ET and after.

Light snow on and off continues for a long time; from Monday afternoon to Monday evening and Tuesday morning. A gradual build-up will occur during this time. Any persistent snow falls mostly overnight.

Snow totals forecast

By the end of Tuesday morning, 2 to 5 inches will be common in Motor City and Southeast Michigan. 3 to 5 inches are probably closer to the great lakes (Erie, Huron and St. Clair) and the Detroit and St. Clair rivers. Macomb, Monroe, Eastern Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair and Wayne counties including towns like Monroe, Wyandotte, Detroit, Mt. Clemens and Port Huron and Sandusky will receive these 3 to 5 inches of snow.

2-4 inches (isolated 4-inch dots) are likely in Lapeer, Central and West Oakland, and West Wayne counties.

1 to 3 inches will fall in Lenawee, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.

After Tuesday

We thaw slowly but surely on Wednesday and after. The sun returns with daytime temperatures above zero.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be mostly sunny with daytime temperatures near 40 degrees and late night / early morning lows in the 20’s. Beware of any freezing at night.
