CNN presenters Jake Tapper and Don Lemon appeared stunned after Tapper completed his exclusive interview with President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris, their first joint meeting since the 2020 presidential election.
Towards the end of the prime-time special, Lemon provided some commentary on Tapper’s session, showering Biden with praise for what he described as a “normal” and “sane” interview.
“We haven’t heard any fake news. We haven’t heard any conspiracy theory. We haven’t heard any personal grievances,” Lemon said. “We have heard from an elected president and a vice president who want to work with the other side.”

Lemon then pointed to Biden’s response to Tapper’s question of whether or not the president-elect wanted President Trump when he took office next month.
“I thought that was a very important question and a great answer from him, when you said is it important for the current president to be your inauguration and he laughed and everyone knew what he was thinking, then he kept giving me the thought was a great response, ”Lemon told Tapper.“ He said it was important for the country, that the country sees a smooth transition. This is what we need, Jake. “
“Yeah,” Tapper nodded. “I mean, there were definitely a lot of right answers, as far as the Justice Department isn’t mine, it’s the People’s Justice Department and you know I’m not going to do that , I’m not going to do that. And of course we’ll see. The proof will be in the pudding, but yes. “
Tapper then expressed how “different” it was to interview Biden compared to Trump, telling Lemon “you don’t really have to harden yourself up for the potential reaction when you bring up uncomfortable matters,” to which he referred several questions, including one on members of the Biden family to avoid possible conflicts of interest during the next presidency.

“Yeah, Hunter Biden. You mentioned Hunter,” Lemon replied with some surprise. “And there was no moment worth mentioning. He answered very clearly and distinctly.”
“There wasn’t the attack we were used to in the Fourth State, so it was unusual,” Tapper chuckled later.
After the election, with Biden slated to become the 46th president, Tapper trashed President Trump, declaring that “the long national nightmare is over.”

Tapper attempted to recap the Trump administration as a “time of extreme divisions … this is a time of several significant and utterly preventable failures, most tragically, of course, the refusal to respect facts and science. and do whatever can be done to save lives during a pandemic. It was a time when truth and facts were treated with disdain. It was a time of cruelty when inhumanities such as the separation of children became the disgraceful policy of the United States. But now Trump’s presidency is coming to an end, come to an end, with so many wasted opportunities and ruined potential, but also an era of simply wickedness. To paraphrase President Ford, it must be said for tens of millions of our fellow Americans: their long national nightmare is over.
Lemon also appeared relieved at Trump’s defeat, tweeting “I can’t tell you how difficult it has been as a reporter to cover this dark part of our history.”
