According to data from the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere exceeds 415 parts per million (ppm), which is well above what it has been during of the last 800,000 years.
This is the highest level since homo sapiens arrived on the planet, tweeted meteorologist Eric Holthaus, representing an increase of 15ppm over the past three years. "We do not know a planet like this," said Holthaus.
This is the first time in the history of humanity that the atmosphere of our planet contains more than 415 ppm of CO2.

CO2 emissions are largely caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas.
They keep on the Earth a trapped heat that would normally disperse into space and warm the planet.
According to a recent United Nations report, climate change and human activities could result in the disappearance of more than a million species of plants and animals.
