Former Texas A & M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has signed a player agreement with the Alliance of American Football and will join the Memphis Express, AAFC announced Saturday.

Manziel spent the 2018 season in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Montreal Alouettes, where he played in eight games, totaling five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Manziel was released by the CFL on February 27, on the grounds that Manziel had "violated the agreement allowing him to play in the league".

The winner of the 2012 Heisman Trophy went through the AAF waiver system, in the order listed, after the San Antonio Commanders waived his graduate allowance.

Memphis has the worst AAF record, 1-5, which earned them first place in the lead and the first attempt to claim Manziel.
