For Víctor Gaviria, filmmaker and director of the Festival, this type of activities offers, among other things, the opportunity to know Antioquia and recognize our origins. This year, the organizers of this film event want to invite young people to become citizens of the country through the seventh art .
"We need to know again what democracy is: after the National Front, drug trafficking, paramilitarism and guerrilla warfare, practically, the concept of the citizen has disappeared," Gaviria explains.
Thus, the third edition of the Garden Film Festival, which will be held between the 19th and the 22nd of July has for central theme Cinema and democracy: from the inhabitant to the citizen . The central sample will consist of 30 films that will address this subject from a historical and contemporary point of view.
"We want to invite the viewer to be an active and participative citizen, and we want to offer a cinema with country-building, which we need," he explains.
The central exhibition starts this Thursday at 7:30 pm. with the film Santa y Andrés, Colombian-Cuban coproduction of Carlos Lechuga released in 2016 .
This opens the curtain of this Festival which will present more than 30 films, will have 17 guests, 9 audiovisual workshops, a laboratory and the ceremony of handing over the call Caleidoscopio, which brings together the best of the short film Colombian.
