Amazon is redoubling its commitment to the health sector. The e-commerce company has announced an agreement that will acquire PillPack, an emerging Internet company dedicated to delivering home-based medicines.
The reaction was immediate between traditional pharmacy chains such as Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS Health, which suffered abrupt falls in the opening of Wall Street.
PillPack organizes and delivers medicines to patients in specific doses that must be taken at any time. It is also offered as an online pharmacy that is open 24 hours a day. Jeff Wilke, head of Amazon's consumer business, says the combination "will simplify people's lives and make them feel healthier."
Amazon is presented as an e-commerce portal cheaper. But as he expanded his logistics infrastructure, he put more emphasis on saving time for users. Jeff Bezos has been trying to get licenses in the United States to distribute drugs, so this acquisition is not surprising.
