As of this month, technological platforms operating in the country, such as Uber, Netflix, Cabify, Deezer, among others, are obliged to pay the value-added tax (VAT) of 19%

According to the director of Dian, Santiago Rojas, next October, the first court of accounts will be required to know how much was collected for this concept .

Rojas, clarified that each platform will have to see if the service is taxed or not in Colombia and explained that a public transport company is not subject to payment of VAT , as long as there is no fee for a commission to provide a service

According to what was stipulated in the latest tax reform, "any platform that provides services in the country, that he is domestic or foreign, should pay VAT for his services from July 1 ". However, up to now, only nationals had this obligation

It should be mentioned that the Minister of Finance, Mauricio Cárdenas, said a few days ago that "the idea is that all digital platforms , we do not know where they are, who sell goods and services in Colombia, pay VAT. This is unfair competition with our local businesses, our small businesses . "

According to the Chief Financial Officer not to be taxed by digital platforms, the Dian would use the ] tool that collects the credit card or debit card with which the payment was made .

For its part, the Ministry of Commerce is also preparing a series of regulations to regulate all applications that offer digital tourism services, in order to offer better guarantees to consumers.
