A study conducted at Northwestern University explains one of the reasons that accelerate aging in some women, in this case multiple pregnancies.
Research by Alen Ryan and Christopher Kuzawa of Northwestern and Dan Eisenberg of the University of Washington showed that pregnancies can age female cells more quickly.
The results were obtained by observing two distinct markers of cellular aging that independently predict mortality, and both appear older in women with more pregnancies in their history . The observed noted that aging accelerated between 0.5 and 2 years for each additional pregnancy. The study was conducted on 3,000 women between 20 and 22 years.
