In February of this year, the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá (MamBo) showed its dying face with the alleged rental of its facilities. While some considered it a hopeless, and even embarrbading proposition, it ended up being a breath of fresh air that quieted some of the problems in this space, which will turn 55 in October.
As part of this month's celebration, the museum will throw the house out the window with a gala that aims to be at the level of the most recognized, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (MET), which will put featured a red carpet, a dinner where people can visit the museum's rooms and listen to music, a prize for philanthropy in the arts and an auction of experiences, according to Claudia Hakim, director of MamBo.
But before this moment came, the museum decided to do something different in its projects: to show 200 works that are part of his collection and that the public had not seen, as part of the exhibition "The Art of Disobedience", open until 14 October.

The MamBo has a collection of more than 3,600 works. Why was it never done?
The museum's collection has always aroused curiosity and, at age 55, it was important to do so. This has been done sporadically, but never with this magnitude. Sometimes we bring out the most iconic works of recognized artists, but with The Collection book, we realized that there are wonderful works that people have never seen. Thus was born the theme of the 20-year presentation of the collection, from 1965 to 1984, at which time the museum was located in this final and final place.
Have the works been restored?
The project includes the cleaning, disinfection, restoration and conservation of the works we took for the exhibition and all those who are saved, thanks to the support of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. In addition, a large process of visualization of the collection has been initiated, which consists of making a diagnosis, evaluating it and making a deposit with the appropriate conditions for its conservation.
Why was there so much stumbling to finding a final site?
It was a traveling museum, there was no money to build a building and so there were temporary spaces. First, from 1963 to 1965 he had an office in the 7th career with 23. Then, the rector of the National University, José Félix Patiño, gave him a space to be there, but due problems of university strikes In 1970, the works suffered and the museum was transferred to the International Center of Bavaria for a year, then to the District Planetarium until 1979.

The artists we have now, such as Miguel Ángel Rojas, Sara Modiano, Aldolfo Bernal and Antonio Caro, among others who are now great masters. One of the requirements of the Salon was that the artists leave a work for the collection.

Young people create a revolution through art, against what was considered normal in politics, religion and bad. The role of the artist who showed the landscape and was more contemplative was also questioned and new ways of expression were created, such as performance and posters on the street.

At one point, the exhibition was titled "Es- you modern? This border between the modern and the contemporary is difficult. Although they are modern pieces from 20 years ago, they look very contemporary. The exhibition also seeks to spark a dialogue between people around this concept, in a museum that, although modern, is up-to-date and has contemporary proposals.

His story and how to stay alive all this time, as well as the memory of Colombian art. Now, the museum must be an icon and a reference in Colombia and Bogotá.
What happened after the MamBo lease?
The situation concerning the projects is controlled, we have some very good ones with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the District. In addition, the museum has events, memberships have increased, the store is a support and the pancakes live fully. Now we are among the people's weekend plans.
