For the third time in its history, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) performed a kidney transplant in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV ).

The Head of the Unit of Transplantation of the Superior Medical Unit of Specialty (UMAE) "License Ignacio García Téllez", Dr. Jorge Martínez Ulloa, noted that thanks to the retroviral drugs that the IMSS acquires, it is possible to control the rejection of the organ.
In the operation, the surgical protocol had a variation. Since measures have been strengthened in the operating room for example, gloves and thicker lenses have been used to prevent contamination.
The patient progressed satisfactorily and not presented complications, continued with his drugs to prevent rejection of the organ and control the HIV virus.
