Walmart, the distribution giant, announced Tuesday that it would work with Microsoft to increase the use of cloud technology and artificial intelligence services. The announcement is a strong signal of the union between the major rivals of Amazon.
On the one hand, Walmart has been working on duplicating its presence in the e-commerce sector to better compete with Amazon. On the other hand, Microsoft has been working on a technology that would eliminate ATMs and paylines from stores.
The partnership is expected to allow the retailer to increase its capabilities and to follow the proposals of Amazon, which is year launched a store format, called Amazon Go, highly automated, in which it is not possible to use the software. There are no ATMs.
According to Reuters, Windows has also shown its technology offering to other chain stores around the world.
Through this partnership, Walmart plans to defend itself against the ambitions and experience of Amazon's sales data and to increase its online presence.
