HOW FOOD BANKS WORK

Food banks work with a human team made up of direct and volunteer professional and operational employees; which allow to develop 3 missionary processes which frame their daily work:

1. MANAGEMENT OF DONORS

From this process, the Food Banks are in charge of managing the donations of products, of time, of 39, money and / or services with companies or public-private entities or individuals wishing to go through ABACO (Asociación de Banques Alimentos de Colombia) or the Food Bank, to promote food waste and food and nutritional security of ZERO in the vulnerable Colombian population through the rescue of products that can be used or consumed by humans.

Donations can be of 3 types:

Donors of products:

Its purpose is to manage donations of food and non-food products with companies or public-private entities, or people they wish through the intermediary of ABACO (Association of Food Banks of Colombia) or the Food Bank, who donate their products and those who do not have it. not done yet. Donors of Money:

Its purpose is to manage donations of money with companies, private public entities, or individuals who wish it through ABACO (Association of Food Banks). Colombia) and / or the Food Banks direct their economic resources supported by the management and the respect of the tax legislation in force.

Donors Time:

Their goal is to manage donations over time – volunteering with individuals and companies interested in helping to strengthen the work of ABACO and food banks.

2. PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Starting from this process, the Food Banks are responsible for carrying out the receipt, packaging, sanitation, handling and distribution of products inside. Food Banks to be delivered to the beneficiary institutions, with conditions of safety and quality of the product.

3. MANAGEMENT OF BENEFICIARIES

From this process, food banks are responsible for the management of selection, liaison, care, monitoring and follow-up, suspension or withdrawal from their beneficiary institutions.

BENEFICIARIES OF FOOD BANKS

In Colombia more than 581 thousand people through 3,441 institutions, are beneficiaries of the 18 Food Banks.

The Beneficiaries of the Food Banks are people in vulnerable situations, who fail to consume the staple foods necessary for good nutrition; because of the extreme poverty situation in which they find themselves.

The population groups served by the beneficiary institutions are:

Institutions receive donations made by businesses through food banks, then deliver them to the beneficiary population in different ways; taking into account the characteristics of the population group served and the reason for each institution.

Methods of giving gifts to recipients include: nutritional projects, food rations, lunches, lunches, food parcels, community kettles, family markets, dining rooms, barter, food fairs and products.
